Creating studies of studies

I’ve got a post in the works about my friends’ wedding–it was incredible and I’m still collecting the resources for the post–but in the meantime, I wanted to post about a drawing/painting exercise that I’m trying to put into practice a little more.

A study from the main room of the apartment, probably about a half hour on Procreate

The drawing from my study. I did things like enlarge the leaves and cleaned up their shapes, drew through a little more, to add dimension, and messed with the color/lighting a little bit

This is a drawing done from life with the intention of capturing lighting/color and the general idea of this plant (the mother of like half the plants in my apartment, I kid you not). Later, I revisited this drawing and “stylized” it, using only my original study as reference.

I’m trying to hone my drawing skills and develop my own visual shorthand a little more, so I’d like to do more of this.
